OS 1893 indicates that there is a Smithy behind the chimney sweeps. The top right edge of the photograph shows Richmond Lane continuing away from the camera. At the point where the women can be seen is the junction with West Richmond Street.

The Gaiety Theatre, Leith (bottom left advert) changed from a theatre to a cinema in 1913. It re-opened as a variety theatre in 1944. The Vagabond King was released as a musical film in 1930.
