This was an remains a very controversial incident in Canadian military history. Critics of Gen. Arthur Currie question the decision to fight for the liberation of Mons when the Armistice was imminent. The last Canadian soldier died 2 minutes before the 11:00 a.m. end of fighting. This shows St John's Hill running up hill. The first entry of the left is Robb's Entry. the small entry in front of the whitewashed outhouse is the back alley to the rear of buildings on Robb's Entry and to the rear of buildings on St John's Hill which continued to the left just where the small boy can be seen under the lamp.

This is the junction of Lutton Place and St Leonard's Street. OS 1893 confirms house and staircase. Castle o Clouts can be seen on the right edge of the photograph.

The brick wall showing the outline of a bricked up door on the left edge of the photograph is still there today, as is the stone wall which is hidden behind the wooden fence. The building showing above would have extended over today's pavement. Fascinating these clues are still with us today especially the brick wall!
