There is another poster just visible on the left of the Waterford Dundalk one, its for Dan Foley who was a labour candidate and the son of this man I think Mr Foley- Ferrybank N.S.

I believe my grandfather Owen Hughes born 1902 and my great uncle Felix Hughes born 1901 were at Pembrooke Industrial School after 1902. There fathers name was John Hughes and mother name was Mary Hughes née Barkey. According to 1901 census they were living in County Monaghan in Killyneil. My grandfather was not yet born but there was another great uncle born 1900 and his name was James Hughes. 1911 census only shows their Grandparents home at address I have mentioned. Any information would be much appreciated. My grandfather Owen Hughes sometimes known by Jack and his brother Felix (Frank) I knew him as Uncle Frank both made it out of Pembrooke Industrial School, Owen arrived by ship in Australia and worked on a sugar plantation in Townsville where he married my grandmother Maria Hughes formally Nicholson, parents Joseph and Anna Frances nee Chaney ( also arrived by ship from Dublin.) Married 9th November 1938 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Townsville. They end up settling in Wellington New Zealand and had 4 children Anne,Patricia,Vincent and Terry who are all alive, my grandfather past away in the early 1980s in Rotorua, New Zealand and my Grandmother past away in the early 1990s at Raumati South,NorthIsland,New Zealand. Felix Hughes worked on the International Linars as awaiter, often docking in Wellington New Zealand,. Eventually he settled in Foxton New Zealand. I don’t think he ever married and past on years before my grandfather. If this information helps some other descendants of my family that will make me very happy. It is a very nice photo and they do make for a good looking group. Uncle Gaybo is yer man if you could contact him, he would have been there around then unless I am mistaken. Maybe he is even in there. The right hand parting is not the only one, that lad in the plimsolls or "tackies" as we called them in Limerick was in danger of the ire of the Christian Brothers for wearing those in the front row.

Swordscookie Swiftly checked an authoritative source (Wikipedia). Apparently Gay Byrne (famous Irish broadcaster) was born 5 August 1934, which'd make him only about 7 in 1941. I think that's a little younger than these chaps. And love tackies - have tagged for that...

Gaybo's older brother who died a few years back (can't think of his name just now - AL?) was also in that school and also worked for RTE. The chap on the right on the middle row looks a lot like him. There's something about the chap 3rd from right in the front row next to the lad with the tackies that is very familiar and reminds me of a Barrister or politician.
