Wolgast is Adolph "Ad" Wolgast. The right hand side of this headstone indicates the grave of boxer Jack "Nonpareil" Dempsey Using the persistent URL above and then downloading the uncompressed TIFF, the text on the right hand side reads: "JOHN E. DEMPSEY DIED Nov. 1, 1896 AGED 32Yrs. 1Mo." Here is a relatively recent comparison pic: www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pis&GRid=14954...; from Find A grave: www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=14954727 According to wikipedia here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_(Nonpareil)_Dempsey there was a bit of a to do about the erection of an appropriate memorial stone over his grave. More about the boxer here: www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/non-jack.htm Of course he is not to be confused with the other boxing Jack Dempsey.

That's "Ad" Wolgast, "Ad" short for Adolph. He became lightweight boxing champion of the world in 1910: www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,861392,00.html See more Wolgast pics here: www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2449486430/ www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2536796784/
