NYT of Nov 11, 1913 described a bout where he beat a New York boxer, Leach Cross. The bout had been a focus of much media attention, to judge from other NYT pieces. AFAIK, the photographers would ride small boats out to meet the incoming liners, shoot the incoming notables from a passenger list they had bribed a clerk for, and stay aboard until the last moment on a departing liner, leaving on a small boat. Paparazzi of their day.
