Shorpy says this photo was taken on November 24, 1913, when Morris was training for his eighth fight of the year, against Jess Willard, on December 3. The last three of those fights, including the Willard bout, were at Madison Square Garden, in New York City. According to the stats online, Morris lost to Willard "NWS" -- but I don't know what NWS means. He lost a bout with Gunboat Smith on October 9 "DQ" -- I don't know what that means either, but I doubt it stands for Dairy Queen. On September 19, Morris conquered Al Reich with a knockout in the first round.

JJA IV died on the Titanic the next year; Madeleine was also on board, but survived: she was pregnant at the time, and gave birth to JJA VI soon after. In 1916, she remarried (a banker), giving up her right to any inheritance from JJA IV. She had two more sons and divorced her second husband in 1933. this is such an AWESOME photograph,sooo clean!stunning.

although ruth in this photo is not in a traditional stance to receive worship, the way her feet are highlighted holds significance--whether it was intentional or not. she is depicting radha, an incarnation of the hindu goddess lakshmi. a worshiper would touch her feet for a blessing and the goddesses purity would be transffered to the individual despite the belief that feet are one of the more profane parts of the body. they are still more pure than the worshiper, in this case the viewer.
