Hi, we're administrators for a group called Preserving Cultural Heritage Around the World, and we'd love to have this added to the group! this is possibly his son, as the 4th Earl died in Dec 1914, aged 75, and his son Major Henry William Crichton, Viscount Crichton died in the war in October 1914, and his son succeeded the grandfather as the 5th Earl, aged 7.

Since he is wearing his coronation robes this must be the 4th Earl and dates to May 1910 or January 1901. Probably the former as he wears the uniform of a Privy Councillor and he was made that in 1902. Strangely it seems as though someone has drawn on the star of the Order of St Patrick.

I think we have seen that chain on Mayors of Waterford before...

One year later, and one mayor later. The previous image (below) is Edward Walsh (Mayor 1928-29). www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/6061514031/ Which would likely make this portrait image John Wyley (Mayor 1926-27). At least according to Wikipedia and the NLI catalogue.

It also says "Waterford" above his head... (As part of the coat of arms and motto of Waterford City: "Urbs Intacta Manet Waterfordia")

wikipedia has a list, and suggests that in 1926 and 1927 the Mayor was John J. Wyley
