This print seems in better condition than the original negative, or is it the contrast levels? eg the man's back is scratched. 1900- 1901 ?

Yes, this print looks better than the inverted (for colour) digital scan taken from the glass plate negative.

Museums of History NSW - State Archives Collection Ahem! It is Princes Street looking SOUTH, not north. Photo Investigator is wrong too.

Looking south from present day Suez Canal.

This would seem to be the earlier photo of the two with the un-demolished wall behind the lady. Probably hours (or next day?) between them due to the different shadows.

I wonder if they all ate "Germea for Breakfast" or were sick of the sight of those adverts - presumably there to catch the eye of city-bound ferry passengers on the way to work in the mornings. The other side of the building had adverts for the evening newspaper.
