According to Gaslight Sydney: The City Viewed Through Late Victorian Eyes by Louise Johnson (George Allen & Unwin, Sydney, 1984), this stormwater channel was photographed in Forest Lodge in 1895. See page 79. Her source was the Metropolitan Water Sewerage and Drainage Board archives. This would mean it is probably Johnstons Creek Stormwater Channel, No. 55. Déjà vu ... it is very similar in construction to the stormwater channel I previously identified as the Beattie Street Stormwater Channel No. 15, Balmain - The construction of the stormwater channel's in Sydney were a result of the Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Extension Act of 1894. For health reasons, it called for the previously combined stormwater and "foulwater" sewers to be separated. The original system was still being separated as late as the 1970s! See: The Sweat of Their Brows: 100 Years of the Sydney Water Board, 1888-1988 by Margo Beasley (Water Board, Sydney, 1988), pp. 137-138.
