See NYT of Feb 20, 1914 query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9F0CE3D91730E733A... Second article in this extract says that the previous night, the Berkeley Theater was appropriated by the Society of Illustrators for a smoker and two playlets.

The Society of Illustrators still exists. See www.societyillustrators.org/About-the-Society/History/His... . It was founded in 1901. Mentioned as members are "Howard Pyle, Maxfield Parish, N.C. Wyeth, Charles Dana Gibson, Frederic Remington, James Montgomery Flagg, Howard Chandler Christy " The history on the website indicates that women were welcomed as full members in the twenties. I suspect the female characters in this picture are in drag. Would others agree?

General Jose Santos Zelaya (white mustache), liberal former President (1893-1909) of Nicaragua, roused from sleep and arrested in the middle of the night in New York City by U. S. Marshall Henkel on a charge of murder. He was incarcerated in The Tombs jail, pursuant to an extradition treaty with the government of Nicaragua. Zelaya had been tried and convicted in absentia of murder, by the regime of his successors in Nicaragua.
