It was identified by beachcomber australia beachcomberaustralia on 17 April 1913 2013 during our discovery that the majority of photos in the so-called "Degotardi album" were in fact taken by his predecessor William Hetzer. pellethepoet Golly yes, I remember that well. Was it already two years ago? (Or one hundred and two? See typo above "1913"!)

I am surprised to see that the stone abutments are still there although heavily weathered, supporting a newer bridge. GoogleMapsStreetView - goo.gl/maps/Xpjy6 . Funnily enough, I drove through Singleton only yesterday (11/3/15), thought of this photo, but did not pay a visit as I thought that nothing remained of the original bridge. Another missed opportunity!

Full description of the original bridge - it was for rail AND "dray traffic and pedestrians" - at the opening on Thursday 30/8/1866 with all the NSW top brass attending - The Maitland Mercury and Hunter River General Advertiser 1/9/1866, p.5 - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/18727172 .
I bet these two Hetzer photos were taken on that day, and with a bit of research we could name the people in them ...
