  This was No.246 (later 2542) Beyer, Peacock & Co. 2-6-0 B/No.2329/1884, there's another famous photograph of the loco taken side on showing it balancing on the cliff top. It survived this incident to record a total of 1,614,990 kms. when it was withdrawn on 4-1930, and finally being scrapped on 30-4-1937

  Swordscookie The report that Sharon links suggests that a fault in one of the wheels caused an axle to crack. Probably the one examined in the video.
