Thanks for posting these Garden Palace photos which I had not come across before. It was a fascinating building with a wonderful history.

The Garden Palace Fire Gallery is well worth a look, but I tried searches of Photo Investigator and it produced almost nothing. Am I doing something wrong?

beachcomber australia These photos aren't on Photo Investigator, yet. They are part of NRS 4481 which we have been uploading; it is a very large collection and they will be added eventually :)

In the meantime there are some photos of the Palace Gardens here and here and here.

The Garden Palace Fire Gallery has more photos plus an account of the fire by the night watchman. It's incredible to think that this massive building burned down in about 40 minutes.

(Edward Merwin) Grosse (1857–1920)... trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16878723 - SMH, 8th December, 1920...Grosse's brief SMH obit gives some interesting bio details...Grosse evidently specialised in zoological drawings...I gather Grosse was originally from the US...
