His obituary in The Times (London) concluded A popular and considerate landlord, he devoted himself to the management of his estate, and was very proud of his cherry trees, which were the largest of their kind in the country. As a shot, he excelled, and he was a first-class billiard player.

Maybe The Irish Times? Ambrose Congreve was born on 16 January 1832.3 He was the son of John Congreve and Hon. Louisa Harriet Dillon.2 He married Hon. Alice Elizabeth Dillon, daughter of Robert Dillon, 3rd Baron Clonbrock and Hon. Caroline Elizabeth Spencer, on 26 July 1866.1 He died on 15 March 1901 at age 69. He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the 2nd Life Guards.3 In 1871 High Sheriff. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Waterford.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Waterford.3 He lived at Mount Congreve, County Waterford, Ireland
