Ambrose was certainly not the best general we had. Even he said he was not fit to command an army, but Lincoln turned to him and he tried to do his best. Too bad that was lacking. Fredricksburg was a real bad call. He almost pulled off the Petersburg mine operation, but that blew up in his face. He always wore that nice hat!
