Pince-nez type eyeglasses were the most popular eyewear in the USA, Canada and much of Europe during the period 1885 to 1920. A pince-nez had no arms or temples and clipped on the bridge of the nose. It was held in place by either spring powered nose guard grips in the fingerpiece type or a spring bridge with nose guard grips in the hoopspring or C bridge type. Properly fitted, a pince-nez remained securely attached to the bridge of the nose at all times and was very comfortable even during full time wear. Eyeglasses (pince-nez) and spectacles (glasses with temples) : were unisex then. The terms eyeglasses and spectacles had distinct meanings. The rimless type was the most popular and stylish for all ages. For soldiers,it was great for wear under a gas mask or goggles and army officials stated the a pince-nez was the ideal eyewear. He was born in Boligee, Alabama, and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1881. He was the second Chairman of the Federal Reserve, serving from 1916 to 1922. After working in Cuba to reorganize the financial System, he was appointed president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in 1923 and served until his death in 1930. His death was due to heart trouble after a long illness. He died at his Boston home. His obituary was printed in the New York Times, April 8, 1930. [1] He also served as the managing director of the War Finance Corporation.

Edmund K. Stallo, a lawyer from Cincinnati; his father John Bernard Stallo (1823-1900) was US Ambassador to Italy; his wife Beatrice McDonald was the only surviving child of Scottish-born oil baron Alexander McDonald. They had two daughters, Helena and Laura, before Beatrice died in 1895. Edmund didn't handle his daughters' inheritance very well: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvay-by-the-sea Edmund married again, to Mrs. May Harrington Hanna, and divorced in 1912. He married a third time, in 1919, to Mrs. Clarissa Cook, a shipbuilder's daughter. Helena Stallo married a French nobleman, and Laura married an Italian prince.
