Looks terribly hot. Is it true that the temperature in Australia gets up to 20 C? Must be like living in the desert.

What a great pic! Here we're looking South down Castlereagh St...towards Martin Place and then King St, etc... trove.nla.gov.au/work/190055317 - interesting to compare with this ca. 1913 NLA Fairfax pic, which shows the Australia Hotel pre additions with its original mansard roof... trove.nla.gov.au/work/189952885 - this late 1925 NLA Fairfax pic shows the GSB at a vaguely similar stage of construction...it's on the right of frame... The construction of the new Government Savings Bank Building in Martin Place was was one of Sydney's largest building projects of the interwar years...just going on the various digitised newspaper items, the demolition of the previous building and the excavation for the foundations took place in 1923-24...the external construction work appears to have taken most of 1925-27...the interior was completed by late 1928...the building was officially opened on 13th December, 1928... trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/223390419 - the Sun, 12th June, 1924...the GSB as a hole in the ground... trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/160083481 - the Sydney Mail, 21st October, 1925...the external work well in progress... trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16343549 - SMH, 29th December, 1926... trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16386069 - SMH, 19th July, 1927... The new GSB building was acquired by the Commonwealth Bank at the time of the takeover/merger in late 1931...

WorkCover could have made a fortune out of these two and the bridge builders in fines if it had been around in 1932!
