The hour was noon. That is, according to page 10 of the next day's Sydney Morning Herald: nla.gov.au/nla.news-article16122999 "Six firms submitted 20 tenders. There were 11 tenders for the cantilever type of bridge, seven for an arch design, and two for an inverted arch." [ ref. nla.gov.au/nla.news-article31210469 ] Dr. Bradfield wrote the subsequent report on tenders. trove.nla.gov.au/work/18667533

Both cars are Model A Fords (manufactured 1928-1931).

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/61271636@N05] Museums of History NSW - State Archives Collection I remember riding over the bidge in these carriages in the late fifties - these were known as the "Bradfield Cars". Riding near (or in) an open doorway in the underground was an experience we all enjoyed!

The last Bradfield cars remained in service until the early 70's.

In any case the lovely wide doors in the Sydney electric cars were just made for us despatch boys as we rattled around town delivering parcels for our companies in the days before couriers and email! The trip from Wynyard to Central was quite an 'adventure' - I lalways took the long way 'round and back, via the Quay! We also had a couple of clients in North Sydney - a trip over the bridge standing in the doorway was sensational!
