Many people don't know that Helen Keller became deaf and blind at the age of 19 months because of an illness. She wasn't born with it; therefore, it was that much more frustrating for her when she obtained those disabilities. That was probably a cause of her being so uncooperative as a child. Anne Macy Sullivan, her teacher, is shown in the picture by her side. She helped Helen embrace her situation and learn to live to inspire others for years to come. After researching, I strongly believe she is one of the main reasons why Helen became so famous. For more information on Anne Macy Sullivan, visit the link below: www.afb.org/AnneSullivan/

This is a very beautiful photo. Helen Keller is seeing the Library of Congress in her own way. I wonder what she is picturing in her mind.

She stands out like a star in this picture because she's able to be so much more natural than the others. She didn't have a preconception of how someone should hold their face for a photo so she just WAS. Lovely.

The story of these to women is simply incredible. Their bond must be very strong. I wonder how accurate "The Miracle Worker" tells their story. This is a wonderful moment in time. I am glad someone was there to photograph it.
