She stands out like a star in this picture because she's able to be so much more natural than the others. She didn't have a preconception of how someone should hold their face for a photo so she just WAS. Lovely.

Mrs. Macy (Anne Sullivan Macy) was tutor and companion to Helen Keller. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Sullivan

The story of these to women is simply incredible. Their bond must be very strong. I wonder how accurate "The Miracle Worker" tells their story. This is a wonderful moment in time. I am glad someone was there to photograph it.

"Life is nothing if not a great adventure," said Helen Keller in her autobiography. What a brilliant woman to break through her disability to touch the world. Great reading.

the 1913 International Flower show related to these photos was held at the Grand central palace. Unfortunately the building was demolished and I can't find any record of the eagles. The International Flower Show, co-sponsored with the New York Florist’s Club, was the grandest of the shows produced by The Horticultural Society. It was held at Grand Central Palace from 1913 to 1953 and later at The New York Coliseum through 1970. www.hsny.org/about_history.html

I also have to say that she is given way less credit than she should be. Where would Helen Keller have gotten without her? Exactly!
