  Many people don't know that Helen Keller became deaf and blind at the age of 19 months because of an illness. She wasn't born with it; therefore, it was that much more frustrating for her when she obtained those disabilities. That was probably a cause of her being so uncooperative as a child. Anne Macy Sullivan, her teacher, is shown in the picture by her side. She helped Helen embrace her situation and learn to live to inspire others for years to come.   This is a great picture. It captures the time period quite effectively. She truly is an inspiration to us all. It's amazing to know that she was the first person who was both deaf and blind to graduate from college. I recently read on Wikipedia that she was an activist as well. I didn't know that she campaigned for women's right to vote.
