Hoisting the German Imperial flag on MAGDALENE VINNEN

This is Quite Interesting and Historical! When the MAGDALENE VINNEN was in Sydney the order came from the new Nazi government in Germany to use the old German Imperial flag (black, white, red horizontal bands) accompanied by the Nazi flag with swastika (not evident in any of these photos). See trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16959672 -
CHANGE OF FLAG. The German Consul-General (Dr. Rudolph Asmis) has received an instruction that, in place of the Republican flag (which has horizontal bars of black, red, and gold), the old Imperial flag (black, white, and red) must be flown, and that on all ceremonial occasions it must be accompanied by the Nazi flag, with its swastika emblem. On the German sailing ship Magdalene Vinnen, berthed at Woolloomooloo, the Republican flag was hauled down at sunset on Wednesday, and yesterday morning in the presence of the entire ship's company, the Imperial flag was hoisted in its stead.
