A aerial photo taken in 1951 shows the wharf as dead centre on the western tip of Pyrmont, it also "Hampton Villa', on the other side of Johnstons Bay.

The Magdalene Vinnen (II), launched in 1926, a four masted German steel barque of 3500 tonnes (empty) and 117metres, (the largest operating sailing ship), became the Commodore Johnsen in 1936, was a war reparation to Russia in 1945 and renamed Sedov in 1948.
