Not the "Hawkesbury River", but the collapse of the old Glebe Island Bridge in August 1899. The new bridge was being built alongside; some of the new embankment slipped over and smashed the old wooden structure. Read All About It ! - SMH, 07/08/1899 p.7 - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14253629 More illustrations - AT&CJ, 12/08/1899 p.23 - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/71332068 I think we are looking from Pyrmont towards Balmain. GoogleMapsSatellite - maps.google.com.au/maps?ll=-33.868015,151.18579&spn=0... That is something I never knew about!
