This is Lewisohn Stadium at City College of New York, built in 1915 demolished in 1973, with Shepard Hall (still standing) in the background. In September, 1916, Metropolitan Opera singers put on two operas at the stadium, Wagner's 'Die Walküre ' and a second program of 'Cavalleria Rusticana' and 'Pagliacci.' Hard to say which production these actors were rehearsing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewisohn_Stadium digital-archives.ccny.cuny.edu/exhibits/lostworld/lewisoh... query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=9C07EEDE1F3FE2... www1.ccny.cuny.edu/ci/centennial/uptown_shepard.cfm

Something to keep in mind with all the singers on the program for the 4th of July pageant here - No loudspeakers, no amplifiers, no public address system, not even any decent opera hall acoustics. You needed a set of lungs in those days.
