Dr. Edward Elway Free, former editor of The Scientific American, who was noted for popularizing scientific subjects, died Friday night at Post Graduate Hospital, where he had undergone an operation. He had been ill for two months. This is Lewisohn Stadium at City College of New York, built in 1915 demolished in 1973, with Shepard Hall (still standing) in the background. In September, 1916, Metropolitan Opera singers put on two operas at the stadium, Wagner's 'Die Walküre ' and a second program of 'Cavalleria Rusticana' and 'Pagliacci.'
