    Cockaday is Laurence M. Cockaday, a radio expert who had written a book on the subject in 1922. Here's a review: "Radio Telephony for Everyone," by Laurence M. Cockaday
    (Stokes), Is a clear nontechnical explanation of the working theory of radio in general, and the receiver and transmitter in particular, so that the boy of sixteen and the man of sixty will read It with equal interest and satisfaction.
    Mr. Cockaday. technical editor of Popular Radio and The Modulator, has studied and worked in radio telephony for fifteen years. He built one of the first broadcasting stations In the United States. During the war he served as radio instructor in the navy, and while there Invented a radio transmitter extensively used during the war. His position as technical editor on radio publications keeps him in touch with the latest developments In the field, so that readers of hls book are certain to find definite, up-to-date Information upon which to work."

    This and some nearby photos are preparations for the first live New York symphony radio broadcast. The New York herald for August 12, 1922, ran the following story: "STADIUM MUSIC BROADCAST. Symphony Orchestra Concert Sent Out First Time. Last night was the first time that a great New York symphony orchestra had its music broadcast by radio, and reports which came In during I he evening indicated that the venture was entirely successful. The special microphone developed for the occasion made It possible for the actual music of the Philharmonic Orchestra's .stadium concert to be heard over a territory with a population of 75,000,000. The broadcasting began at 9 o'clock, daylight saving time, and lasted for an hour and a half. The microphones utilized last evening were of such sensitiveness that all sound.
