This and some nearby photos are preparations for the first live New York symphony radio broadcast. The New York herald for August 12, 1922, ran the following story: "STADIUM MUSIC BROADCAST. Symphony Orchestra Concert Sent Out First Time. Last night was the first time that a great New York symphony orchestra had its music broadcast by radio, and reports which came In during I he evening indicated that the venture was entirely successful. The special microphone developed for the occasion made It possible for the actual music of the Philharmonic Orchestra's .stadium concert to be heard over a territory with a population of 75,000,000. The broadcasting began at 9 o'clock, daylight saving time, and lasted for an hour and a half. The microphones utilized last evening were of such sensitiveness that all sound. Including the music, applause or what not. was converted into an electric current of strength that varied In accordance with the character of the sound waves that impinged upon the diaphragm." chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83045774/1922-08-12/ed-... Lester always dressed to the nines and then secluded himself in his radio closet. It was later discovered none of his equipment was plugged in. -- Seen on your photo stream. (?)

We have Val McDowall listed as the photographer. Dr. McDowall owned the radio station but all the newspaper reports list Thomas Elliott as primarily responsible for the television experiments. This man is also identified as Thomas Elliott in this newspaper article. nla.gov.au/nla.news-article49687701
