    Mistakes are sometimes made as I believe is the case with the first name here. Further investigation reveals that this photograph was originally catalogued at the IWM in their Bond of Sacrifice Classified Collection as HU96646: ascribed, as shown, to be Private Jolly, Robert; Duke of Wellington's Regiment. There can be little doubt that he is wearing the cap badge of the Duke of Wellington's Regiment (The West Riding) of a 'lion rampant carrying a banner unfurled within a crown' as opposed to the 'rising sun' of the AIF. It is possible of course, that for some reason Henry Harry Jolly was actually known as 'Robert' or 'Bob' - a nickname perhaps, or allusion to a sportsman or well known (then) Yorkshireman. Added to which the soldier in the photograph appears to be aged between 19 and 24 - rather than 33-35//

    The Robert Jolly, 17th Btn, AIF, who was KIA on 3 May 1917 is NOT the same as the one in the photo. The one in the photo was taken prisoner by the Germans and was repatriated home to Bradford in 1919 (see WWI British Army records on Ancestry)
