It was in the area of Kelly's Corner. From this page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portobello,_Dublin "Starting in the 1980s Kelly's Corner was re-developed. Old Camden Street and Charlotte Street disappeared and the ruined buildings there made way for the Camden Court Hotel. The north side of Harcourt road was developed, Stein's the opticians being the last to go in the first phase, and Gleeson's pub in the second." So we are in the vicinity of the "Bleeding Horse" pub, presumably? In the 1980's, you used to come along the South Circular road, turn left onto the first bit of Camden Street, turn right and double back onto the SCR via what I think was Charlotte Street, then go along the SCR and left again onto the very top of Harcourt Street........ This shows the scene today, g.co/maps/v6g5t - you now go along Charlotte Way to get to Harcourt Street!

Irish251 Thanks a million! That's a great help... Think this is one of the first times that one of our photos depicts a street that just does not exist any more - not changed dramatically, but just completely obliterated!

"Assuming an Irish name was not unusual in that era of boxing; there were Jewish fighters with Irish names too; and Jim Flynn, the only man who ever knocked out Jack Dempsey, was actually named Andrea Chiariglione. One reason for the name changes is that there were not enough Irish fighters to satisfy the large number of Irish fans." -- Pete Hamill, "Why Sinatra Matters" (Boston: Little, Brown, 1998), p. 58.
