This event took place on Flag Day in 1918, June 14th. The Giants, who had won the National League pennant the year before, ran it up the Polo Grounds flagpole before a game with the Chicago Cubs. The Tanglefoot ad (for flypaper) was a clever baseball ad campaign, customized for different teams and ballparks. FLAG DAY, June 14, 1912: The ship "Finland" was chartered by the U. S. Olympic Committee to carry the American Olympic Team to the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden. It departed New York harbor on June 14, 1912 (the scene photographed above), and served as training and living quarters for the team as it crossed the Atlantic and during the games as well, when it was stationed in Stockholm harbor as a floating hotel.
