Probably would've saved more gas to take those patrol cars off the road! I'm guessing a 440 V8 with four-barrel carb, 3-speed auto with non-lockup torque converter and 4.11 gears -if you filled one with rocks and pushed it off a cliff with the engine off and the tank drained it would probably still get 8 mpg on the way down.
