  "Motor Cruiser Fails To Equal Train Time - NEW YORK, April 30. The motor cruiser Gar II Jr, of Detroit, racing against passenger train time from Miami, Fla., to New York, completed the last leg of her voyage here today. Her actual running time for 1260 miles was announced by her commander, Gar Wood, as 47 hours and 23 minutes. The running time of the Havana special over the Atlantic Coast line, which the Gar tried to better, was 43 hours for 1480 miles. This time in cluded all regular stops and a wait of one hour at Washington."   These boats , speedboats of "Gar" Wood of the Wood Hydraulic Hoist and Body Company, of Detroit, came up in the Bain/LOC stream 4 years ago, though this one is a later model of the same name, with 18 exhaust pipes:
