Look at the range of expressions; the adults smiling, convinced that the place they're going to is better than the one they're leaving, the oldest boy staying stoic, not convinced that lost friends and being the kid with the funny accent and clothes will be worth it, the middle kids excited about the big trip on a big boat, and the little ones just overwhelmed with the energy of it all... I wonder where they wound up? One of my contacts put up some vintage pics of hot dog day in an Ontario high school in 1962, the two babies would've been the right age. Possible IDs for a few of the women here: Julia Heyward Edey (1894-1965) of Bellport, Long Island, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Edey, married Douglas Warner Paige of Schenectady in May 1916. Her mother, Birdsall "Bird" Otis Edey, was national director of the Girl Scouts early on. spoonercentral.com/Bellport/Bell2.html Julia and Douglas had at least two children, Peter Paige and Mary Tolfree Paige McGuirk (1920-2009). Now that artolog found her full name, I think this might be the same Christina Nichols: Christina Nichols Rainsford (1894-1994), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Livingston Nichols of Katonah, NY, married W. Kerr Rainsford (Harvard '05), a WWI veteran, and architect. Margaret P. Luce (1895-1986), daughter of Harry J. and Katherine Luce, married Hamilton Vose Bryan in 1919. He was a naval commander and died in 1944. Margaret C. Overton Olmsted (1894-1973) was daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clough Cosby Overton. She married William Beech Olmsted Jr. at Ridgefield CT in June 1917. (Christina Nichols was one of the bridesmaids.) Both Margaret and William went to France soon after the wedding, William to work with an ambulance corps, and Margaret to do relief work with children. Their surname is sometimes shown as Olmstead. She and Caramai Mali (see nearby photo) were among the five women who signed the Certificate of Incorporation of the Association of Junior Leagues International in 1921.
