Tearing down Morgan bldg. (LOC)

    In 1912, J. P. Morgan decided to demolish his building at 23 Wall Street and build a new office on the same site. The new building was four stories, therefore this is the demolition of the old building. (ref. wirednewyork.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-3610.html )

    Lifeasdaddy: Thank you for the information about the building. According to this New York Times article (May 1, 1913) the demolition started on April 30, 1913 and was supposed to continue for forty days: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9906E0DA1F3AE633A... We will update the information and reload the description.

    I don't know if this is true or not, but I had heard that Morgan had the building replaced with a smaller building merely to show off his wealth: that he could afford to purchase some of the most expensive real estate in the world and only put a four-story building on it.
