This was front page news with two photos in the Sydney Morning Herald of 2/6/1950. The photos must have been the previous day.

281 buildings were ordered from the UK (for 1 million pounds) and they were guaranteed for 90 years. I wonder how many are still around?

Quite a few of the primary schools around the north shore have some of those aluminium-clad buildings.

There are now many examples in Sydney where one "semi" has "gone up". The results are rarely attractive. I never realised that in Daceyville they were designed that way from the start!

State Records holds a collection of Aerial Photgraphs c.1936-1980. In order to view these you will have to visit our Western Sydney Records Centre.

I like the token tram, heading east with its rear pole up, on Gardiners Road.......and how Banks Ave was to become the major thoroughfare, with trams. That role fell to Bunnerong Road, at left, and with buses!
