Yeoval Public School - teacher Mary Meehan

  Mary Meehan possibly Mary Winifred Meehan (1868 - 1960) who had come to the school in June 1905. Her family was from Dripstone, NSW and in 1908 she married Frederick James Bowhay of that pioneering family from the Yeoval district. Not often do we get to see a teacher's name on these old school photos. Her appointment to Yeoval and marriage in 1908 were reported in the Molong Express and Western District Advertiser (via Trove).

  I find these school photos of the early 1950s fascinating. I was at school a decade later and our hairstyles and clothes were the same.

  It looks so much like my 2nd class in 1961, I can put names to about 90% of those faces.

  I have no idea Why that sign says Cook's Hill because it is NOT Cooks Hill. The photographer must have forgot to change it from being at Cook's Hill before going to Boolaroo. That class was at Boolaroo Public School, NSW. I know all of those kids and I can still name most of them now, over 60 years later.
