    I read about her: Quanah Parker's mother. According to what I read she never got over being seperated from her children when she was "rescued" and restored to her family. Fascinating image. I think "The Searchers" was based on her story to some degree.

    The story here is both tragic and uplifting. The photo is outstanding considering how primitive the technology was at that time.

    The book I'm reading points out how large her hands and wrists were due to the heavy work Comanche women did....here you can only see her hands, but...wow.

    Read the book "Empire of the Summer Moon"--- excellent book and it tells the whole story of Cynthia, her children, her Comanche husband and the rise of Quanah. Very informative and educational book.
