Eidsvold is a small town in the North Burnett region of Queensland. It is situated on the Burnett Highway approximately 430 kilometres north of Brisbane. The town is the self-proclaimed Beef Capital of the Burnett and is a hub for the regional cattle industry. At the 2006 census, Eidsvold had a population of 459. Considering Eidsvold Goldfield was only established by proclamation on November 17 1887, the people of the township which quickly sprang up did quite well to have obtained a school by early in 1889. The Eidsvold Provisional School was opened on April 1 1889 in a nine-meter by five-meter building with a galvanized iron roof. The first teacher appointed was Mr. Arthur McKenzie. The attendance for the June quarter of 1889 was 161, a considerable increase on the opening attendances of approximately 100. It is not surprising that requests were immediately made for a bigger school and on October 27 1890, the provisional school was moved into a more suitable building. The state school was opened in 1892 after a new building was completed. During the 1890s the attendances rose dramatically and accommodation problems and staffing difficulties predominated. Pupil teachers were used to overcome staff problems and in 1900 the school's staff consisted of the headteacher, two assistant teachers, and two pupil teachers. In 1965, the opening of a secondary department for the post-primary education of Eidsvold youth to Year 10 level met a gaping need. The attachment to the school of the preschool to satisfy pre-compulsory education needs and the extension to Years 11 and 12 in 1986 allowing students to undertake post-compulsory education supported the concept of developing the total individual. Before the construction of St Joseph’s Church, the Rathdowney Memorial Hall or Rathdowney School of Arts were used as Mass Centres for the spiritual needs of the people in the Rathdowney area. The Architect drew up the plans and construction began on the 11th of July 1929 and just 12 weeks later the building was completed. In its report, the Beaudesert Times described the building thusly: “The church is constructed of Queensland hardwood timbers in the walls and floors, with Queensland pine in the roof. The building comprises an entrance porch 11ft by 8ft, church 40ft by 23ft, sanctuary 15ft by 16ft, sacristy 9ft by 16ft. The walls are sheeted externally with hardwood chamfer boards and internally with pine lining boards. The ceiling of the sanctuary is lined with fibro-cement sheeting and covers battens and that of the church by pine lining boards. The sanctuary is divided from the church by an elliptical arch and the windows of the sanctuary are glazed with lead-light containing designs symbolic of the Crucifixion, the Holy Eucharist, and St Joseph. The glazing of the church windows is in the light rose-tinted glass. Externally, the walls are painted cream-white with brown facings and the sashes of the windows and barge boards of the gables in light stone tints. Internally, the walls are painted with a dado in brown tints and walls in French grey, and the ceilings in cream white. The roofs are finished with gables and half-timbering and ventilator dormers. St David's Anglican Church was dedicated in 1929.[15] Rathdowney Uniting (formerly Methodist) Church, 39 Running Creek Road, 2006 Palen Creek Methodist Church opened on Saturday 10 May 1913.[16] It was relocated to 39 Running Creek Road (28.2111°S 152.8680°E) in Rathdowney in 1957. In the 1970s it was further extended with the Glenapp hall and the Barney View Lutheran Church. When the Methodist Church became part of the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977, it became the Palen Creek Uniting Church.
