If cities would put these "public fountains" back on the streets we could get rid of plastic water bottles that fill our streets, rivers and oceans! Hot days in Wash. DC could sure use some public fountains to soak a head in!

This photo is an interesting contrast to other photos in this collection which show wealthy families uptown in Central Park. The sight of these informally dressed immigrants probably looked shockingly disorderly to the American upper classes.
