blackpoolbeach I was just adding a note on that device. My father who was a train guard for many years also caught the staff but he may have been a backup in case the driver or fireman (if there was one) missed it. Sometimes they were a large item like a baton and more often they were approx six inches long and carried in a pouch attached to a ring through which the catcher hooked his arm.

Is the lady in the light coloured dress the "Miss Walsh" from your earlier shot? They are very formal looking, probably well meaning and very charitable and a pack of auld biddies to work with.
