Fascinating! I had fun finding out exactly where this was - several levels down in Wynyard station looking north east up York Street. The only(?) constant is the wrapped statue of John Dunmore Lang (see note) - streetview goo.gl/maps/qArK5PK9UwXSgPsYA

Thanks, I have added it to the map. I also liked all the compressed air hoses for the jack hammers draped around the rocks.

Fascinating dinner - as miniopterus said "rustic looking dining spot" with a waiter no less. Almost looks like a clandestine political meeting.

Dale Corinneski It is quite rustic looking, we're thinking it was taken at Ye Olde Crusty Cellars in Sydney. See this photo:

They certainly had spruced it up by the time I visited Ye Olde Crusty Cellar in the late 60s/early 70s if that is so. Here is a pic from the State Library of NSW with Leo Buring who owned the Cellars [acms.sl.nsw.gov.au/item/itemLarge.aspx?itemID=43925]

Corinneski Thanks for the link! It appears that photograph was taken in a different part of the bar. See also these photographs, which were taken earlier in 1933, from our collection:
