These are so steep, I always feel a little vertigo when I'm standing at the top. I love them!

I have heard that these escalators were originally installed at Milsons Point after the station was built, but before the bridge was finished. They took people from the station down the steep hill to the ferry on Lavender. I believe they are the first public escalators in Sydney.

Accompanying note: "'Stairway to the Stars,' longest continuous motor stairway ever built. Carried visitors over the reflection pool to the 86-foot high observation deck on the roof of Anheuser-Busch's twenty-five million dollar Budweiser Brewery for a 'parrot's-eye' view of Busch Gardens."

I think I remember going up this as a very little girl!

The enameled panels adorning the side of the escalator were produced by enamel muralist, Paul Hultberg, who was known for his large scale architectural enamel commissions in copper, steel and aluminum. More of his work can be found on this website: www.hultberg.com

If anyone hasn't done so already the pedestrian tunnel is well worth a visit. (it's free!) I was awestruck at the beauty of the escalators. Wooden treads contained in a cast aluninium housing.
