George Herman "Babe" Ruth Jr. (February 6, 1895 – August 16, 1948) was an American professional baseball player whose career in Major League Baseball (MLB) spanned 22 seasons, from 1914 through 1935. Nicknamed "the Bambino" and "the Sultan of Swat", he began his MLB career as a star left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, but achieved his greatest fame as a slugging outfielder for the New York Yankees. Ruth is regarded as one of the greatest sports heroes in American culture and is considered by many to be the greatest baseball player of all time. In 1936, Ruth was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame as one of its "first five" inaugural members.

Bill Edwards here is William Hanford "Big Bill" Edwards (1877 –1943) an American football player who played guard for the Princeton Tigers football team of Princeton University from 1896 to 1899 and member of the College Football Hall of Fame (Class 1971). Cleveland Indians' catcher Steve O'Neil photographed at Ebbets Field during the 1920 World Series. Note the black mourning band on the left sleeve of O'Neill's uniform. The black arm band on the Indians' uniforms was worn in memory of former teammate Ray Chapman (1891-1920), who died earlier in the 1920 baseball season in August after being struck in the head by a pitch thrown by Yankees' pitcher Carl Mays during a game at the Polo Grounds. Chapman remains the only player to die as a result of an in-game injury suffered during a Major League Baseball game.
