This event took place on Flag Day in 1918, June 14th. The Giants, who had won the National League pennant the year before, ran it up the Polo Grounds flagpole before a game with the Chicago Cubs. From a colorful account of the game: "M'GRAW'S BATSMAN FALL UPON VAUGHAN AND COVER BRUINS WITH WHITEWASH; HAUGHTY CUBS ARE HUMBLED BY GIANTS McGraw's Men Celebrate Flag Day by Taking Final Game of the Series, 7 to 0. DEMAREE IN FINE FORM Holds Chicago Batsmen Helpless While the New Yorkers Are Flaying Vaughn's Curves. For fear that some people might have forgotten that the Giants won the National League pennant last season, Flag Day was celebrated up at the Polo Grounds yesterday, Old Glory and the championship muslin being run up the flag pole on the same rope." query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=9E0CEED9103BEE...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bevo "Bevo was a non-alcoholic malt beverage, or near beer, brewed in the United States by the Anheuser-Busch company beginning in the early 20th century. Bevo enjoyed its greatest success during the time of prohibition, when beer, wine and distilled liquors, were made illegal for thirteen years. The Anheuser-Busch company started brewing Bevo when alcoholic beverages were prohibited in 1916 by the United States armed forces. Production rose greatly with national prohibition in 1919, and Bevo was by far the most popular of the many "cereal beverages" or "near beers" of the time."

The Tanglefoot ad (for flypaper) was a clever baseball ad campaign, customized for different teams and ballparks. This one for the Polo Grounds says "In 1917, Burns NY caught 135 Flies, Tanglefoot Grand Rapids caught 50,000,000,000 flies." More at books.google.com/books?id=N_Y1AAAAMAAJ&pg=RA1-PA133&a...
