It was the largest wool shed, because Warrah Station was at least 250,000 acres, and ran nearly 200,000 sheep. (ref. www.nswera.net.au/biogs/UNE0673b.htm)

The rail fences in the foreground were typical of the region. They could be built without nails or other fasteners -- typically of chestnut, a native wood plentiful in the Blue Ridge Mountains until a blight wiped it out in mid-20th century. Haystacks were the common way to harvest hay for animal feed before mechanical balers were invented. I remember my grandfather and older cousins piling hay with pitchforks on a field too marshy to bring machinery into. The two stacks at the left of this field look like they might have been assembled of cornstalks rather than meadow grass.
