The spelling of a lot of these place names seems to be German. In Danish: Fredriksborg Slot

Actually it's now "Frederiksborg Slot, Hillerød, Denmark", but when the picture was taken, the spelling in this picture could very well have been correct. I live just 1500 meters from here, and my grandfather used to work as a gardener in the park around the castle. He lived in a little house just outside the frame of this picture. Frederiksborg Castle isn't situated in Copenhagen, but in Hillerød, approximately 35 km from the center of Copenhagen. It is now a museum where you can see a large collection of historic paintings.

I was at Fredericksborg some years ago, and I found the museum very interesting. With each room, you advanced about 10 years in Danish history. Of course you are correct, Jesper. It is Hillerød, not Copenhagen. I have a later view of this photo. It will have to wait a few days, until I post the set on Flickr.
