She entertained the troops and raised money to help wounded veterans. She toured the United States raising money for the war effort, although she had relatives fighting on both sides of the war – including her sons August Heink, a merchant sailor who had been impressed into the German submarine service, son Walter Schumann, Henry Heink and George Washington Schumann, all in the United States Navy."

August, a merchant seaman, and Charlotte, the wife of Doctor Grief in Leipzig, remained behind. According to German law, Schumann-Heink, by marrying a foreigner, had forfeited her property in Germany. Also, her boys were required to serve in the army before they could leave the country. The German courts decided the boys and daughter Marie could accompany her to America and that she could retain one-third of the money in Germany as she, rather than her deceased husband, had earned it. Her home in Germany was confiscated, and she had to buy it back. " Maybe this is her daughter Marie, born in 1896. The evening world., November 05, 1917, Final Edition, Page 25, col. 1. chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83030193/1917-11-05/ed-... indicates that her only recital in New York "this season" was at Carnegie Hall the previous Saturday, November 3. One of her sons, a sailor, was in the audience. chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/search/pages/results/?state=&a... suggests that she had been on a whistle-stop tour visiting her soldier sons and singing at benefits. Her pianist was Edith Evans and a soprano, Florence French, also performed. So maybe the younger woman is one of them.

Here we see Marjorie Lucey (nee Rouse) with her daughter Winifred and her father, Kodak Australasia chairman John Rouse. Both Marjorie and daughter Winifred arrived in Sydney on the Sierra on 8th August, 1929.

Marjorie Lucey (b. 1893) was the eldest daughter of Kodak Australasia chairman John Rouse and his wife Anna. Marjorie and her sister Winifred were well known Sydney socialites in the years pre World War I. Marjorie married American engineer William Sylvester Lucey in 1918, after which she lived in the United States. Per the digitised newspapers, she made numerous return visits to Australia in the following decades. I gather Marjorie named her daughter after her sister...
