Testifying to Congress about the Ludlow Massacre. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludlow_Massacre As another prominent capitalist of the era explained, "You can't mine coal without machine guns".
  • Art Siegel said:
This is not Congress, but the Commission on Industrial Relations, which during these critical years of labor turmoil and political unrest, went around the country taking testimony of leading figures in American industry, labor, academia, etc. on these issues and possible ways to address them. Congress established the commission, with the mandate to report back, but the commissioners were private citizens. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commission_on_Industrial_Relations. This is one of a group of pictures in the Bain Collection of witnesses at hearings the commission held in New York's City Hall in January, 1915.
