On August 29, 1913, these men were part of a large welcoming committee of Chicago-area Democrats and office holders who had come to New York to welcome home the Democratic boss of Cook County, Illinois (Chicago), Roger Sullivan, and his party of cronies and family members, who had been on a four-month journey to South America and Europe. Sullivan disembarked from the Lusitania, which had carried the travelers on the final leg of their journey, from England to New York. NY Times article Jan 12, 1912, identifies the official call for the Democratic National Convention to be held at Baltimore, the call was issued by Norman E. Mack Chairman of the party and Urey Woodson Secretary of the Democratic National Committee. Urey Woodson was from Kentucky, where he ran a newspaper, the Owensboro Messenger. Norman E. Mack was from Buffalo and a long time Democratic party official. Robert Crain appears to be a Democrat from Baltimore.
