The photo relates to Bobby Le Brun who was a comic and pantomime artist. He performed in George Sorlie's Musical Revue and after Sorlie's death ran the company alongside Grace Sorlie and his wife Grace Le Brun. Bobby Le Brun was born in Sydney in 1910 and began his career as a dancer in revue. After his Tivoli debut, he traveled widely with tent shows such as Kate Howard's Dramatic Players, Bartons Follies, and Sorlies Musical Revue. A versatile comic and pantomime Dame, he kept Sorlie's tent show on the road from 1949 until 1961 with the help of his wife Grace, a former dancer. He made the transition to television and club shows largely along the NSW Central Coast, was awarded an OAM in 1981, and died at his home in Newcastle in 1985. In 1875, six years before women were admitted to universities in Australia, Brisbane Girls Grammar School opened—initially as a branch of Brisbane Grammar School—to provide girls the same educational opportunities as their brothers. Miss Sophia Beanland was appointed Lady Principal in 1882, having been recruited from Bradford Girls Grammar School in the UK. During her time as Lady Principal, Miss Beanland witnessed and championed significant changes, including the separation from Brisbane Grammar School in 1882. This was followed by the relocation of the School in 1884 to its current premises on Gregory Terrace. Gloria Dawn Evans was born in Port Melbourne on 26 February 1929. In 1939 she toured with other talented youngsters in the Tivoli Gang. In 1941, when she was 12, her mother launched her at the Tivoli as an adult soubrette. In 1949 Dawn made her musical comedy debut in Little Nellie Kelly and Sunny for Will Mahoney at the Cremorne. In 1959 Garnet H. Carroll gave Gloria Dawn the coveted Carol Burnett role in his production of the musical Once Upon a Mattress at the Princess in Melbourne. The ‘unactressy’ actress ‘Gloria Dawn was brought up in variety as part of the razzamatazz of the Tivoli era,’ wrote Katharine Brisbane, ‘and in her later years, she brought that same vitality, roughness, and single-minded professionalism to the legitimate theatre – sometimes to its consternation.
